Take 1000mg three times daily when the cold sore tingle starts. Take 1000mg daily as a maintenance dose to prevent cold sores. You can also get Lysine Lip-balm which helps too.

2. B Complex*

Take B-Complex tablets twice a day when you notice the cold sore tingle starting. You should take one a day also to keep the cold sore virus under control.

3. Vitamin E Capsules*

Take Vitamin E tablets from the first day of the coldsore breaking out and also burst a capsule and apply directly onto the cold sore blister.

4. Acidophilus*

This is the good bacteria that is present in live yoghurt. You can take it in capsule form or just by eating live yoghurt daily. Some people smear the yoghurt directly onto the coldsore blister too! Try not to lick it off : )

9 Herbal Cold Sore Remedies

1. Grapefruit Seed Capsules

To surpress the cold sore virus take Grapefruit Seed Capsules or if the coldsore has already developed, burst a capsule and dab the contents onto the blister.

2. Garlic and Garlic Capsules

As soon as you feel the tingle, slice a clove of garlic and hold over the tingling area. Keep it there for around 20 minutes to let the active compounds from the garlic soak in. Repeat THREE times daily. Don’t forget to add more garlic to your diet too! It doesn’t hurt to use odorless garlic capsules if you don’t like the distinctive smell of garlic.

3. Green Tea

Make a weak cup of green tea. Let the teabag cool a little and then place over the area where the coldsore blister is coming up. Hold there until the teabag goes cold. Don’t forget to drink the tea too! Green Tea has many health benefits so add green tea capsules to your diet if you don’t like the tea.

4. Aloe Vera

Either apply Aloe Vera cream/gel or the sap from the plant directly onto the cold sore.

5. St. Johnswort Tincture

Put the tinture onto a cotton ball or cotton bud and apply liberally to the coldsore blister.

6. Tea Tree Oil

Put a few drops of Tea Tree Oil onto a cotton ball or cotton bud and apply as necessary to the cold sore. This will dry it up in no time

7. Oil of Oregano

Dab a drop of the oil directly onto the coldsore.

8. Manuka Oil

Related to Tea Tree Oil but less irritating. Dab directly onto the blister.

9. Olive Leaf Capsules*

Take three times daily to combat occurance of cold sores.

11 Other Natural Cold Sore Treatments

1. Hot Water

Soak a small piece of tissue in hot water. Stick it over the cold sore until the tissue cools. Repeat five times. this can kill off the virus.

2. Ice Cube

Put an ice cube in a paper towel and press against the coldsore until the ice cube melts. This reduces the swelling and stops the cold sore in it’s tracks.

3. Alcohol

Get a pin. Sterilise it with alcohol and then pop the cold sore blister with it. Soak some tissue paper in the alcohol and press onto the blister. Keep it there for 20 minutes.

4. Toothpaste

Simply apply the toothpaste…the white paste kind not the gel type…to the blister and leave overnight. It will dry out the blister. Works on zits too

5. Aftershave

Dab some aftershave onto the area you feel the cold sore tingle. This can kill it off before it has a chance to grow.

6. Aspirin

Crush an aspirin tablet and add a little water to it. Mix to a paste and cover the cold sore with it. This will dry out the blister.

7. Spirit of Camphor

Get some Spirit of Camphor in your local chemist store. Dab some onto the blister as soon as you feel the tingle. Repeat every two hours.

8. Baking Soda

Mix some baking soda and water into a thick paste. Cover the coldsore with it. Repeat once a day until the blister disappears.

9. Apple Cider Vinegar

Soak a cotton ball in Apple Cider Vinegar and hold against the cold sore blister for 20 minutes. Repeat four times a day and the coldsore will not develop.

10. Tabasco Sauce

Dab a drop of tabasco sauce onto a Q-Tip and apply to the coldsore blister. Try not to lick if off…IT’S HOT!

11. Salt

Dissolve four heaped tablespoons of table salt into half a glass of hot water. Soak a cotton ball in this and hold against the cold sore until it cools. Repeat three times daily.
